The Plot: A Love Letter to Durban's Drive-In
Growing up in Durban, the drive-in wasn't just a movie, it was a gathering of your friends and family for that outing. I remember my family parking in front of what felt like a gigantic screen (realising now that it was only gigantic because I was so small).
There was a specific magic in the outing: connecting the FM radio to a frequency and creating our own little private sanctuary in the middle of a massive community. It was the only place you could be completely alone with your people, yet perfectly in sync with everyone else.
My longing to bring this back wasn't just about the films, it was about the feeling. But in a world of digital screens and automatic cars, how do you make that happen?
After months of crunching numbers, supplier calls, and seventeen "crash outs"... The Plot was born. Not far from the city, but far enough to capture a sky full of stars in the safety of a private farm.
EVERY GREAT STORY HAS A PLOT
"I'd told myself when the idea of this drive-in came to me that if I find a name of the venue that excites me then I'm on the right path, and then…. THE PLOT"
It was clear that this experience named itself.
